Petition to Preserve Harvey Milk Blvd


We, the undersigned businesses and residences, affirm our support for the continued existence of Harvey Milk Boulevard in Salt Lake City. Many of us intentionally chose to establish ourselves here because of this street’s name and the values it represents. Like other streets named in honor of significant historical figures, Harvey Milk Boulevard serves as a lasting tribute to a legacy of courage, leadership, and progress.

Harvey Milk was not only a trailblazer for equality, but also a builder of community across cultures, backgrounds, and demographics, working intentionally with communities beyond his own to create positive change. His legacy reminds us that thriving communities are those that foster connection and honor the contributions of all people.

Over the years, Harvey Milk Boulevard has also become part of our neighborhood’s identity. Businesses have built their brands, community spaces, and sense of place around this name, and changing it would disrupt both the economic vitality and character of our corridor.

We respectfully urge the State of Utah to uphold the principle of local control at the municipal level—just as the State itself values its independence from federal oversight. In that spirit, we ask the Utah Legislature to preserve the name of our street and allow it to stand undisturbed.
